Although Mu Koh Tarutao National Park comprises 51 islands,
there are only 7 large islands, those are Ko Tarutao, Ko Adang, Ko Rawi, Ko
Lipe Ko Klang, Ko Baduang, and Ko Bissi. The total area of this
national park is 1,490 square kilometers, with the sea area of 1,260 square
kilometers of 85% of the area.
Ko Tarutao is very close to Malaysia, only 6 kilometers away from
Ko Langkawi.
Established since 1974, Mu Ko Tarutao National Park is the first
marine park of Thailand. The name of the island comes form the word
“Talor Trao” in Malayan, meaning the island with innumerable bays.
Nevertheless, apart from the sea beauty, this island also has plenty of
forests, view spots, bird-watching sites, waterfalls and historical
attractions to offer.
